Panchtatva - Five Elements by Nupur Nishith

We are proud to present to you the ArtisTTable’s 23rd exhibition - Woman 2017. This is the fourth women’s show that we have presented. The participation is always wonderful and have 17 different countries represented is really a powerful thing to be a part of in this day and age. We know that art is one of the few things that can and does bring people together. It is a place that we can meet on common ground.

This exhibition is an all media and open themed show, which means that any subject matter or discipline was welcome. The only criteria was that the work was to be created by women.

We are happy to have Clarissa Lewis as our juror for Woman 2017. She is a classically trained and accomplished painter herself. Her main focus over the last few years is in the direction of portraiture.

We want to thank Clarissa for her time effort and focused attention. We appreciate her involvement an input.

Juror Statement

First off let me say I imagined this would be an easy task - to pick twelve of my favorite pieces and whittle it down to the most superb three. I was sorely mistaken. This show made me marvel at the skills, minds, and thoughtfulness of the artist behind each piece. The variety of mediums, textures, dimensions, and feelings evoked was truly spectacular. I feel honored to have felt the beauty and seen the emotions conjured up from judging this show. Thank you very much.

First place:
Jane Ditri - Fall Fantasy

Such a beautiful and fresh plein air painting. My breath was taken away by the sugary sweet shades of pink and lavender which still held depth and the ability to hold the painting together so well. The flecks of gold light were the sprinkles on top of this wonderful confection of a painting.

Second place:
Magdelena Morey - Epiphany

Being a classically-trained painter myself, I am constantly drawn to the beauty of a well-done rendering of the human figure in art. This painting's balance and Morey's careful consideration of the proportions of the body married so well with the use of paint and pastel. I especially admire the stability and weight of the form while still showing fluidity and motion with the upper-body. Well done.

Third place:
Sari Fishman - I'm Playing Bach

Maybe I chose this one because my angel mother was a piano teacher and I recall fond memories of learning to play at such an early age, but regardless I love the juxtapositions portrayed in this piece. The childish primary-colored paint, carelessly dotted onto the mature, elegant black and white manuscripts of ancient sheet music. Not how Bach imagined his piece would be played probably, but not entirely missing the mark. Thank you for this unique, highly-enjoyable little treat.

Honorable Mentions:

Keri Joy Colestock - I March To My Own Beat

A lively, sparkling piece that speaks of both high fashion and your child's arts and crafts project.

Lea Daniel - The Three Faces Of The Moon

A well-done illustration with an excellent play on words comparing phases to faces and hearkening back to the chic art nouveau period.

Vera Deans - Dali
A powerful ode to the surrealist showing magnificent printmaking skills.

Esti Drori-Hayut - Untitled

A beautiful dream-like painting with layers and layers of story; a perfect capturing of fuzzy childhood memories.

Annette Godfrey - Innocence

The peachy innocence of youth expertly captured in a soft, beautiful close-up painting.

Tricia Hoye - Mangrove
A tasty morsel of watery greens eluding to an unknown place that draws the viewer to pause and imagine such an oasis.

Nupur Nishith - Dheeya the Girl Child
A completely delicious, modern, and crisply-clean little delicacy in perfect, geometric, two-
dimensional form.

Reut Wagner - Always On My Mind
A beautifully bewitching photograph that hearkens to the supernatural and unseen magic.

Chen Ziv - A New Bubble
A beautiful, thought-provoking, and arousing sculpture with almost-symmetrical perfection.

Congratulations to Greg Lannin for winning the People's Choice Award in our previous exhibition, Landscape 2016 for his painting, Tranquil Woods.
